Abstract

The electrical system of the Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) lighting at Rendani Airport, Manokwari, plays a crucial role as a visual navigation aid for aircraft during landing. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the electrical system, analyze the suitability of the Constant Current Regulator (CCR) capacity relative to the actual load, and determine key technical parameters such as power and light intensity. The research employs field observations, technical data collection, and analytical calculations based on measurement results. The findings reveal that the PAPI electrical system operates reliably under existing conditions. The total actual load of PAPI 35 and PAPI 17 is 3.88 kVA, indicating that the 5 kVA CCR operates at 77.6% of its rated capacity, which ensures adequate operational reliability and safety margins. Furthermore, the analysis shows that increasing the CCR current step leads to a rise in lamp power from 28.92 W to 160.38 W and light intensity from 2.86 cd to 28.68 cd. These results emphasize the importance of routine maintenance of the CCR and isolating transformer to sustain consistent system performance. It is recommended to improve the control system between the CCR and the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower to enhance overall operational efficiency.
